BEYOND BURNSIDE PART 4 Batgirl faces up to the Teacher's henchmen: Schoolgirl, Moth and Hardhat. During the fight she deduces they are flunkies. They failed their college entrance exams and think the formula Teacher wants them to steal is their second chance. Batgirl throws a smoke bomb and slips away. She tries to get to Kai, but it is too late. Teacher has found him, beaten him up, and drawn a sample of his blood. As Barbara takes a flight to Shanghai to save Kai, she calls her friend Frankie and asks her to look up information on Neil Barry to learn more about the bio-encrypted formula Kai was transporting. Frankie finds out that Neil was hired by a Japanese biotech company but he left Japan after he was caught selling company secrets. He stole an experimental intelligence drug that appears to offer a boost in brain power in exchange for hair loss, increased aggressively and cancer among other nasty after-effects. Barbara realizes the Teacher's "students" need that drug to pass their exams. Barbara as Batgirl finds Kai in Shanghai East Hospital. He has just been visited by Grandfather Blood, head of the Gray Gang, whom he was going to sell the formula. But because he was given antibiotics after being beaten by Teacher, he can not deliver it. Given that Blood gave his friend Neil a fifty percent deposit, the crimelord is predictably angry. Kai's plan is to call Neil and get Blood's money back. Batgirl tells him his friend Neil has taken off for unknown parts. Kai is terrified. He only wanted to make an easy buck and make his family proud, but now he is going to get killed. Batgirl tells she will get him out of that mess, but he must leave Barbara Gordon alone. He put her in danger, using her to keep himself safe. He stuck close to Barbara because he hoped the Bat-Family was watching over her. After telling him he is only in love with a memory and he must stop looking for loopholes, Batgirl leaves to find Teacher. Barbara deduces Teacher had to advertise her method to pass entrance exams via social media. Batgirl manages to find Teacher right when she is handling a formula-filled vial that Batgirl promptly to shatters with a precisely-aimed Batarang. Unfortunately, the formula splashes Teacher, boosting her brain power and aggressively. She stands up, ready to destroy Batgirl.
